Eugene Spiritus, MD currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer and co-founder of Bodymatter, a digital health company that builds personalized health solutions to empower individuals with the ability to improve their own health and wellness. Bodymatter is the developer of SleepWatch, the world’s leading sleep enhancement technology program.
He is a Board Certified Pulmonary Physician who remains involved as a Clinical Professor of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary/Critical Care University of California Irvine Medical Center.
Dr. Spiritus began his career in private practice at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Orange and was the founding member and CEO of Pulmonary Consultants and Primary Care Medical Group for twenty years. He held many positions: Chair of Medicine, President of the Medical Staff, Director of Respiratory Service and was involved in the formation of the hospital’s first PPO and IPA.
After a brief period of time consulting for KPMG Peat Marwick, he was recruited to UCI Medical Center as its first full-time Chief Medical Officer. He had oversight responsibility for Case Management, Performance Improvement, Infection Prevention, Risk Management and Credentialing of Physicians
Throughout his career, Dr. Spiritus has been interested in the relationship between cost and quality outcomes. He believes that Sleep is the cornerstone of good health and technology can be utilized to help people get a good night’s sleep.
